Miami Beach has a tropical climate that is almost always above 65°F with an average temperature of 75.9°F and highs of 82°F in the summer.  The blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the white sand beaches make it one of the best vacation spots anywhere in the world.  In 1979 Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The Art Deco District is the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world and comprises hundreds of hotels, apartments and other structures erected between 1923 and 1943.  Mediterranean, Streamline Moderne and Art Deco are all represented in the District.  Ocean Drive is a street in South Beach—the southern part of Miami Beach, Florida.  It is known for its Art Deco hotels. Streamline Moderne evolved from the Art Deco style, and dominates the street. The street has a magazine named after it—(see Ocean Drive magazine), and is the cream of the city's Art Deco District, which is home to about 800 preserved buildings.  Art Deco Weekend is a festival in Miami Beach, Florida and is a production of the Miami Design Preservation League, a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the architectural integrity of the City of Miami Beach through historic preservation.  Art Deco Weekend is scheduled each January.  Shopping includes: Bal Harbour Shops, Lincoln Road, The Village of Merrick Park, and Aventura Mall.  One of the best local hotels is the Fontainebleau.  This luxury hotel has been used for scenes in many movies such as the James Bond film Goldfinger,  and recently received a 500 million dollar renovation. 

South Beach (also known as SoBe, or The Beach) is one of the more popular areas of Miami Beach.  Before the TV show Miami Vice helped make the area popular, SoBe was under urban blight, with vacant buildings and a high crime rate.  Today, it is considered one of the richest commercial areas on the beach.  Its Lincoln Road is a nationally known spot for great outdoor dining, bike riding, rollerblading, shopping and nightlife.
